some new/some old-ish:
CORNELIUS-Point: greatest headphone journey i've experienced in a while.
takes a little while to get into (more so than the accessible Fantasma at
least), ... it's basically a minimal pop masterpiece. sparse, delicate,
deliberate, fucking genius.
DEERHOOF-Holdypaws: two boys, two girls on KillRockStars. amazingly crafted
lo-fi indie rock. dirty pop, passive aggressive, playful, imaginative...
raw creation.
MICROPHONES-Glow Part II: beautiful indie balads. lots of tracks are just
singer/songwriter with acoustic and strange treatments. honest and gorgeous
and imaginative. long disc, full of surprises.
LOW-Things We Lost In The Fire: a married born-again couple and their
friend. simple songs with incredible harmonies. recorded and mixed with
raw attention by Steve Albini. really nice for lonely cold nights.
DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN-Calculating Infinity: if you think Fantomas kicks ass,
DEP eats them for breakfast. this is the most amazingly blazing
post-hardcore shit i've ever heard. incredibly hard and heavy and tight,
then a brief jazz-interlude, then minimal crunch. really angry, but good
angry.
SWIRLIES-whole catalog: i think they broke up... amazing indie rock from
Boston. they started around the hey day of MyBloodyValentine and
MercuryRev. amazing psychadelic pop. heady and heart-warming.
take that you robots!!!!
